Co-operative Activity - Hot Air Balloon Jigsaw

We know in Harakeke that it's important we work as a team this year because we need to look out for each other and really make a difference in each others lives.  So to help with this Mrs Harpur created a Hot Air Balloon Jigsaw activity to get us thinking and working together.  We were placed into two teams and given a piece of the jigsaw each (some worked in pairs).  As a group we had to put it together then work out the colour scheme.  Everyone shared their ideas.  Both teams opted for rainbow colours so that everyone could choose what they wanted which Mrs Harpur thought was a great compromise.  After colouring their designs it was then put together and a team photo added.  Our next task will be to create some statements to go with our hot air balloons to inspire us this year.

Well done team I was super proud of the way you managed to make sure everyone was involved and played a part in the making and design stages.  I can't believe there was no disagreements.  I can tell this year is going to be simply awesome with such a kind and considerate bunch of children.  Keep it up!     Mrs Harpur

Chocolate Cake - Statistics

On Monday we had some delicious chocolate cake as this was our preferred choice for our Statistics home-learning.   We made a pictograph with the results and talked about some statements we could make about our graph.
We worked out that Mrs Harpur would need to make 7 cakes for us to have a quarter each.  Needless to say she certainly didn't have time for that, so we cut each cake (there were 2)  into 16 pieces.   There was even some left over to take home to her children.  Yum!!

All About Me Bags

Today we shared our 'All about me,' bags in our Buzz Groups. We chose four things that would show something about us to our friends. It was great to see everyone so enthusiastic! It was also great learning some new things about each other. Have a look at our slide show below.

Figure Me Out!

For Maths this week we used basic facts as clues to find information about our class mates.  See if you can work out the answers and find information about us as well.
What is this person's favourite number?

What number is on this person's letterbox?

How many pets does this person own?

On what date is this person's birthday?

On what month is this person's birthday?

How many students are in Harakeke?

What is this person's favourite number?

Safer Internet Day

Week 2, Term 1
This week we celebrate Safer Internet Day.  The theme for this year is for us to be positive and make people feel good.  To do this we are going to compliment other blogs and we are asking you to do the same.

We also want you to go to the websites we visit section of our blog and view the Hector the Dolphin video links.  These links remind us of ways we can stay safe on the internet.

2016

Welcome to a new year.  We have had a great start.  Our current focus is how we can make a difference to ourselves, our learning and how we can make a difference to others in the class.
