Wig Wednesday

Yesterday we supported cancer research by wearing our wigs and donating some money towards the cause. There were wigs of every description some teachers were very hard to recognise! We also learned some interesting facts about the cells in our bodies and how cancer can affect them. We imagined our 'blob tag' game and we realised that that was how cancer cells multiplied. We also made our own wig and wrote some of our interesting facts on the back so we could share them with others at home.

Music - finding the rhythm and beat

Over the last few weeks we have been looking at how music affects our mood. We have listened to lots of different styles of music from Blues to Country to decide how they make us feel. To really understand how music changes our moods we had to understand what the beat and rhythm is in the music we hear. We learned that beat is constant and rhythm, 'dances' over the top and changes. We experimented with musical instruments and came up with our own 4 beat rhythms. (See if you can work out who is performing the beat and who is performing the rhythm). Here is a video showing us in action. It sure was fun learning. Make sure you watch all the way to the end, Saskia has a special style all of her own, great for some fun and laughter!

Inspire Day

Inspire Day
Last term Gabby, Jade and Maya went to Inspire Day.  Here are some photos showing them in action.  Gabby has also shared how she found the day.

By Gabriella Olander

I thought Inspire Day was really fun because you got learn interesting things, do experiments, and try new things. I had four classes, they were:
  • Drama Llamas where we got to act out a nursery rhyme but make it different.
  • Extreme Earthquake Engineering where we got to make buildings out of marshmallows and toothpicks, and then we put it in a box of jello and shook it.
  • Guardians of the Ocean where we got to test different liquids and learn about the oceans.
  • Creativity and the Brain where we got to learn about different artists and do art while we listened to music.

During lunch we listened to a band play and watched scientists blow up ping pong balls! We also got a day off school!
