Our Medal Winners!
Congratulations to the students who participated in the Weetbix Tryathlon. Highlights for many included the free breakfast and sunblock. The cold sea swim and having to run after a swim and bike ride were the biggest challenges. Good on you all for giving it a go!

Crystal confirmed as oldest known piece of earth
We know the surface of the earth is much younger than the earth itself. This is because of things like earthquakes, floods, volcanoes, landslides and the weather. These and other things are constantly changing the earth's surface. We will be learning more about these events in class.
Scientists have just found something exciting, an ancient piece of the earth's crust, one part of earth that hasn't changed a lot! They are hoping it might explain more about the history of earth. Watch and learn.

The Lost City of Pompeii
Our Changing Land - There was an exciting topic engager at school today with the staff singing a song about a volcano which included a rap! Then we watched a video about some of the processes that shape and change our land. The video highlighted the fast processess that change the land such as earthquakes, volcanoes and landslides. This video is about the Lost City of Pompeii, now a world heritage site, that was destroyed after being buried by a huge volcanic eruption in 70AD.

Our latest and greatest
We have created these Picasso portraits to go with 'Me' Poems. The "Me' poems are about what we think, feel, dream and wonder. Here are a few portraits. Come and visit our room and see the rest.
We practised our co-operative skills and made these Kandinsky trees in groups. Each group member had a special job to do to make the trees. Then we worked out the skills each group needed to work together. These skills are: to include everyone, participate, help, share ideas, compromise and listen.

New Zealand's Living Taonga
Our current reading theme is all about some of the special animals that live in New Zealand. These animals are all in danger because there are not many left. One of the animals we are learning about is the Giant Weta. Click on the Giant Weta website to see one walking on someone!
